On a door built around 1976, the failure pattern is pretty consistent: a torsion spring that's simply outlived its wind cycles, cables fraying at the drum from decades of the same bend point, or an opener motor that's been reversing itself for years on a chain drive nobody's lubricated since Carter was in office. If your door is heavy to lift by hand and the spring looks stretched or gapped, that's your spring. If the door jerks or stalls partway, look at the cable and rollers before you assume it's the opener.
Heat is the other factor. This area sits in a moderate heat climate band, and on older doors that means the nylon rollers and any factory lubrication have had years of expansion and contraction to work against them, which speeds up wear on tracks and hinges that were never top-grade to start with. None of this is unique to Italy's doors specifically, but it's more advanced here simply because the doors are older.
